History of Galway Weymes

Most of the Weymes here were descended from three brothers who escaped revolutionary France in 1750. They settled mainly in the Ballinasloe area. Records from 1800 to 1900 indicate that the surname in Galway was usually spelled Wheams, Whims, and Whyms. The records also indicate that they lived mainly in the Ballinasloe, Kiltormer, and Loughrea areas. We have family trees for the Galway branch please contact us for details.

The Kilkenny Wemys tree also lived in Toole Tuam Galway for a while. They moved here before 1740, and eventually moved onto Frankford in Offlay and Dublin.
